Paul focuses mostly on Solar and Basecamp, while also investing across our other funds.
He joined the team from Railpen, one of the UK’s largest pension funds, where, as Head of Private Markets, he managed a £5BN portfolio, investing across private equity, private debt and a £2.6BN innovation portfolio.
Paul was responsible for the redesign and implementation of Railpen’s approach to private markets, building internal investment capabilities and launching an evergreen, multi-asset fund structure.
As Head of Investment Management, he was part of the Railways Pension Scheme’s Investment Transformation Programme, significantly contributing to the full scale, bottom-up redesign of its governance, strategy and investment capabilities across all investment teams and strategies.
My experience has taught me that collaboration and relationships are key to success. This led me to co-founding a global forum for asset owner collaboration, where we scaled a community from scratch. The right relationships, with the right people have been central to my investing approach, and I want to bring that experience to Basecamp in particular.
Paul previously held a variety of roles at Royal Liver Group (now Royal London), including Chief Investment Officer, CEO/Chief Investment Officer at Royal Liver Asset Managers, and Head of Investments at Royal Liver Assurance. Prior to that he was a Principal at Mercer Investment Consulting, where he was lead consultant for a wide-ranging portfolio of clients including UK Local Authorities.
Investing in Innovation has long been a passion of mine. I’ve always tried to approach it from the foundation of ‘what makes sense’ rather than what has been done before. With that mindset I believe we can have a truly meaningful impact on the future of our industry and ecosystem.
Away from work, Paul loves spending time with family and friends, travel and Liverpool FC.
