Charles supports our internal hiring and advises portfolio founders on their recruitment.
Charles was previously at Meta, first as Leadership Recruiting Manager for Data Engineering in North America and later supporting the entire Leadership Analytics function in EMEA. Before that he was Head of Recruiting at brain-computer interface company Neuralink.
He credits that role with testing two specific skills. The company began in stealth mode, so the focus was on finding and approaching highly specialized members of technical staff, who are among the world’s top one percent in their field. Later, with the company operating publicly, the role shifted to employer branding and scaling teams.
When looking for new roles, people tend to focus too much on a specific job or title. If you optimize for the company itself, for example its growth trajectory, and for the scope of the role, such as the reach and impact, you will likely advance further in your career.
During his 16 years of working in the San Francisco technology sector, Charles was also Head of Recruiting at Gusto, putting in place the systems to handle the company’s hyper growth, from 30 employees when he joined to around 800 in four years.
When not working, Charles enjoys exercise. Born in France, he has been skiing since the age of five and loves backcountry skiing in particular. Skiing opportunities are somewhat rarer in London than California, however, so he spends a lot of time running.
